Epoxy Flooring vs. Traditional Flooring

Epoxy flooring is a type of flooring made from epoxy resins. It’s an application that includes coatings, adhesives, and composite materials. Epoxy floor coating is made by combining two starting compounds, resin, and a hardener.

Once the materials are combined, they form a chemical compound capable of becoming flooring coatings used for various applications. It’s always best to ask questions when discussing your options with your local epoxy flooring contractors.

Benefits of Epoxy Flooring Versus Other Flooring

Carpet

Carpet is a common flooring solution, especially because it’s fairly cheap to put down, and it can keep your toes warmer during cold months. However, carpet is susceptible to water damage. It also tends to collect dust and will need to be vacuumed regularly so it doesn’t become a health risk.

Epoxy vs. Carpet

When it comes to commercial or residential settings, carpet may not always be the most viable option. For example, messy areas like kitchens and garages are an example of spaces that would not benefit from carpeted flooring. Here, epoxy floor coating is preferable.

Epoxy flooring is easy to clean and does not gather dust. It’s also not susceptible to water damage – spills can stay a while without staining, and you can just wipe the liquid off when you’re ready with no harm done. Epoxy flooring also won’t gather dust. To maintain these floors, all you’ll have to do is sweep and mop regularly.

Tile

Tile is another popular option for flooring. It’s cheap, easy to install, and available in different materials and designs.

Unfortunately, tile has some disadvantages. First of all, you’ll have to deal with the grout, which changes color after a few years. Grout gets extremely difficult to clean and keep clean.

Further, depending on the material you used, tiles need to be replaced if they crack. Glass and ceramic tiles, for example, won’t hold up well against heavy objects being dragged across them.

Epoxy vs. Tile

Epoxy flooring is not susceptible to these types of issues. This type of flooring removes the issue of grout completely, so there’s no need to worry about changing colors or regrouting. Epoxy also does not crack and is much more durable than tile, so you won’t have to replace your flooring for decades.

Hardwood

Hardwood floors are timeless and beautiful – but also expensive and require plenty of maintenance. Hardwood will have problems with water, being susceptible to mold and warping if exposed to spills and moisture. Not to mention, wear and tear from shoes, furniture, and equipment dragged across the floor can damage the hardwood, stripping it of its beauty.

Epoxy vs. Hardwood

Epoxy garage flooring is created to last. It’s non-porous, so water and other fluids cannot penetrate it, reducing the risk of mold. Once applied, there’s no risk of warping. It’s also durable enough to withstand constant impact not only from shoes and furniture, but even heavy machinery like cars.
